Join us in supporting RISE's Wellness Hours by providing homemade cookies to be enjoyed in community! RISE's Wellness Hours are times of connection and healing for people affected by incarceration. By providing cookies, we are enhancing the feelings of comfort and connection that RISE offers to people in need.

We're asking volunteers to make a dozen cookies and drop them off at CCC by Sunday, August 30, at 12:30 PM.

News and Notes‍

ESL's fall semester kicks off this month! From August through May, a team of amazing CCC volunteers will be serving our foreign-born friends and family by teaching English and creating an environment where community and connection can thrive. As a part of that service, some volunteers, with the help of community groups, provide a meal once a month that students and teachers can share together. If you are looking for a meaningful and practical way to show love to members of our community, email Danté at DanteE@cccomaha.org!

Last month, one of our volunteer projects was collecting and donating backpacks full of supplies to Abide for kids in North Omaha who are starting their school year. CCC donated over 120 backpacks, and volunteers joined us at the Back-to-School Block Party, where churches and organizations across the city gathered and donated over 2,400 backpacks in total! We're honored to be part of something so monumental in our community and to help equip the next generation to succeed at school.

Our other volunteer project in July was a meaningful time serving with The Furniture Project. While there, we got to see their warehouse and hear the story of how the Furniture Project came to be, and we contributed by building ten bed frames to be delivered to homes in need!

A Generous View

Whoever has a bountiful eye will be blessed, for he shares his bread with the poor. –Proverbs 22:9 (ESV)

What does it mean to have a bountiful eye?

Our lives are full of great things, and those great things come at a cost. We have to be constantly mindful of our bills, expenses, budgets, and calendars. There are so many things we desire and work toward, but so many things we have to pay for in order to get them. If we're not careful, the days we've been given can feel more like something to survive or afford than something to enjoy and share. To be honest, I have often fallen into this trap myself!

A bountiful eye does not see life as a series of expenses, but sees God as an abundant source of what we need. When we believe that God is the source of everything and that he has more than enough, we give freely, especially to those whose circumstances don't reflect that reality. We can be generous with our time, our resources, and even our respect, because we believe that there is enough to go around. Generosity in all of its forms becomes an act of faith, and with it comes the blessing of a bountiful eye.
