Stepping In, Showing Up: The Deeds’ Community Group Story

When Madison and Matthew Deeds moved to Omaha and started attending Christ Community Church, they were looking for connection. As newlyweds new to the area, they were eager to find real friendships and grow in their faith.

Joining a young adult community group was the first step.

“It kind of makes a big church feel a little bit smaller,” Matthew shared. “You get to walk alongside other believers in similar seasons of life.”

Over time, the group became a place where they could ask honest questions, be vulnerable, and feel truly known. So when the group’s leaders recently stepped away for maternity leave, the Deeds didn’t hesitate—they stepped in to help lead for the season.

“It’s not about perfection,” Madison said. “It’s just about creating a space where people can get together.”

For the Deeds, leading hasn’t meant having all the answers. It’s looked more like creating space for conversations, showing up consistently, and watching others grow. One group member shared about talking to a coworker about Jesus. A few weeks later, someone else shared the gospel with a family member. That boldness was contagious—and it all started with simple faithfulness.

“I think being in community just really strengthens you,” Madison said. “You’re more known in a group setting. You’ll find yourself growing a lot and even asking questions you might not ask when you’re just reading the Bible on your own.”

Whether you’re new to CCC, new to Omaha, or just looking to take a next step, the Deeds' story is a great reminder that God uses everyday faithfulness to build something bigger than we could imagine.
