Fall 2017 Classes

Monday Evening / Begins August 28

Gideon: Your weakness. God’s strength

6:30–8 PM / 8 weeks / Ends 10.23 / $18 / Facilitated by Korey Stading & Chris Reikofski

Do you feel overwhelmed? Inexperienced? Intimidated? Insufficient? Too old or young? Invisible? Afraid? Gideon’s epic victory in battle tells of one man’s struggle with his own weakness, and the One True God who transformed it into triumph. If you’ve ever struggled with insecurity or had trouble accepting your limitations, this study will help you see how God can use your weakness to unlock His strength. Join Priscilla Shirer for a video Bible study that will open your eyes to a brand new perspective on yourself and your God. Study commitment: 30 minutes a day, 5 days a week.

Tuesday Morning / Begins August 29

1 & 2 Samuel

9:30–11 AM / 12 weeks / Ends 11.14 / $18 / Taught by Terry Carpenter

In this study, we will journey through 1 & 2 Samuel one chapter at a time and discover some of Israel’s richest history. We will encounter familiar names like Hannah, Samson, Saul, Jonathan, and David. Stories some of us may have learned as children will come alive, fall into place within the rest of God’s story, and have great relevance to our lives today. Study commitment: 20 minutes a day, 5 days a week.

All Things New

9:30–11 AM / 8 weeks / Ends 10.17 / $18 / Facilitated by Joanne Bonifant & Susan Friesen

This video study of II Corinthians by Kelly Minter tells of Christ’s power in our weakness, Paul’s thorn in the flesh, God’s comfort in suffering, and the heavenly bodies we will one day receive. It is a passionate, pleading, even provocative letter at times, where Paul lays bare his outstretched heart to a community of somewhat inconsistent believers. He explains that, since the coming of Christ, the ministry of the gospel is more gracious, humble, powerful, Spirit-filled, life-giving, and freeing than we ever imaged. Study commitment: 30 minutes a day, 5 days a week.

Cooking with Jesus

9:30–11 AM / 8 weeks / Ends 10.17 / $15 / Led by Sonia Salfity & Shirley Alther

Join us as we cook together, laugh together, and share each other’s stories around the kitchen table. We’ll use God’s living Word to guide and inspire us to find His joy, even in the midst of our hectic daily routines. Learning to check in with our heavenly Father is a way to increase our awareness of His presence, allowing Him to stir His Spirit in our hearts as we stir the food in our pots. This study will focus on a different Bible story each week as we prepare a dish together. Just think, Martha finally gets to invite Jesus into her kitchen! Class size is limited.

Precepts: Zechariah

9:30–11 AM / 8 weeks / Ends 10.17 / $21 / Taught by Melissa Rosacker

Zechariah is a book of prophecy regarding the first and final coming of Jesus, the nation of Israel, and the future of the nations in the world today.  God has not forgotten Israel.  Zechariah will give you hope in today’s uncertain world.  Study commitment:  20 minutes a day for 5 days a week.

The Promised One: Seeing Jesus in Genesis

9:30–11 AM / 11 weeks / Ends 11.7 / $17 / Led by Sherry Martin

After His resurrection, when Jesus used Scripture to explain who He was and why He came, where did He start? In the Old Testament. This is where this study begins to look for Christ, finding Him in the people, promises, and patterns of the Old Testament scriptures. You will make new discoveries of Jesus as seen in the shadows of the OT; apply the gospel found in Genesis to issues such as shame, fear, and the desire for security and significance; and develop your longing for what is ahead when the world is once again made new. Study commitment: 30 minutes a day, 5 days a week.

Voices: Hearing God in a World of Impostors

9:30-11am / 9 weeks / Ends 10.24 / $25 / Taught by Sarah Borhart

How can we know the truth in this age of lies and deception? When so many voices claim to speak for God, how do you discern the truth? Jesus and His Apostles spoke many times about false prophets and warned against those who disguise themselves as harmless sheep, but are in fact wolves ready for the kill. We’ll look at the ways God communicated with men and women throughout the New Testament and how to hear God’s voice in a world filled with deception. This study is a great introduction to inductive Bible study and offers a flexible study format with plenty of opportunity to dig deeper into God’s Word. Study commitment: 20 minutes a day, 5 days a week

Tuesday Noon / Begins August 29

Join us as we study three thought-provoking, modern-day parables in a video mini-study by Priscilla Shirer. The Enough parable teaches us God is a good Father, that His gifts are good and they are always good enough. In the final parable we will face that giving up control is difficult, but that it is what God requires of us. Study commitment: 30 minutes a day, 5 days a week.
