You’re Not Alone

As followers of Christ, we are not immune to pain, suffering, and having our hearts broken. We wish we could escape the pain of grief, loss, sorrow, and failure. We wish we could escape all of the troubles of life that wear us down, but we can’t.

You see, many, if not all of us are reminded regularly just how difficult and full of pain this life can be. We watch a loved one battle an incurable disease and it breaks our heart. We watch a loved one struggle with an unhealthy addiction that is destroying their life and it breaks our heart. We read about children being bullied and taking their own lives and it breaks our heart. We have friends whose marriages are ending and it breaks our heart. We know people, who want a child to love, but they can’t conceive and our heart breaks for them. You lose a loved one, a relationship you treasured ends, you lose a job, or you lose a child. Your marriage ends. Your heart is broken. Where do you go? Who do you turn to?

Too often, during these times of heartache, we blame God for allowing the circumstance that broke our heart. God, where were you? God, why did you allow this to happen? God, my heart hurts so badly right now, why have you abandoned me? If this is you and you’re going through a battle is in life that has left you brokenhearted, I want you to know that God has not abandoned you. You’re not alone!

So, instead of blaming God or running from Him during the times of grief and loss and sorrow and heartache, cry out to Him and trust that He hears you. Because the truth is, “The LORD is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit” (Psalm 34:18).

Where in your life are you experiencing heartache? Talk to God about this. Admit that you need His help and thank Him for being by your side.
