Blame or Worship?

Something for you to ponder…..what would you do if you lost everything? How would you respond if everything was taken from you… your job, your bank account, your marriage, your children, your home; all gone? What would you do?

The Bible shares the experience of just such a man. He lost everything. His wealth, gone! His children, dead! He lost it all. What would you do in that moment? Waive a fist toward God? Curse Him? Walk away from Him? Not this man. You see, of him it is said that he was blameless and upright. He was one who feared God (Job 1:1). Even in the face of unfathomable tragedy, Job remained righteous. In fact, he fell to the ground and worshipped (Job 1:20) and through it all, Job did not hide his grief, he did not lose his faith, and he “did not sin or charge God with wrong” (Job 1:22). Job let his emotions show. He showed that he was human and loved his family. God created our emotions, and it is not inappropriate to express them as Job did. So, if you have ever experienced a deep loss, a disappointment, or a heartbreak, admit your feelings and grieve.

What in Job’s response strikes you as most extraordinary? How would you have responded if faced with a similar circumstance?
