Isaiah 60

Arise! Shine! For your light arrives! The splendor of the LORD shines on you! For, look, darkness covers the earth and deep darkness covers the nations, but the LORD shines on you; his splendor appears over you. Nations come to your light, kings to your bright light. Isaiah 60:1-3

I am crammed into the 19 inch seats designed for midgets flying from Paris to Bamako, Mali. as I read the verses above, a light strikes me. this is amazing stuff. Read those verses above again and look for every image of light...

The world IS in darkness. in Mali, it is so obvious. Trash litters the streets of Bamako. The stench of waste mixes with human body odor. People with deformities beg for money. One woman in fifteen will die in childbearing. One in five kids will die before the age of five. Worst of all, a heavy spiritual oppression fills the air.

God's precious people are enslaved by the lies of Islam. the are in fear of 'the spirits.'. they don't know about the light that could crash into their lives!

I wonder, though, if the enslavement of the U.S. Would be just the same if I saw it with fresh eyes... Maybe I'd see obvious enlslavement to materialism, utter devotion to personal comfort, deterioration of the family, proliferation of pornography and dedication to selfishness as similar signs of darkness in our own world.

There is a light... A brilliant point of truth that changes the entire landscape! One person, one nation at a time, people are being transformed by the embodiment of the light... Jesus himself. Mali needs this so bad. So does Omaha. And we get to be the ones who bring it! Through medical care, education, love and the power of the church, the light is crashing in!

The sun will no longer supply light for you by day, nor will the moons brightness shine on you; the LORD will be your permanent source of light the splendor of your God will shine upon you. Your sun will no longer set; your moon will not disappear; the LORD will be your permanent source of light; your time of sorrow will be over. All of your people will be godly; they will possess the land permanently. I will plant them like a shoot; they will be the product of my labor, through whom I reveal my splendor. The least of you will multiply into a thousand; the smallest of you will become a large nation. When the right time comes, I the LORD will quickly do this! Isaiah 60:19-22

Isaiah finishes the chapter with a brilliant snapshot of future hope. Light has begun to permeate the darkness. But it gets even better. There is a day coming where there is no darkness and no need for the sun. Isaiah talks about it here and later on a in revelation 22, John talks about it more. can you imagine a city without darkness? An existence without sin, death, or pain? That is exactly where we are headed. In the mean time, alets do our best to be the light bringers in this world. let's be a apart of the greatest rescue plan in human history. Let's bring the power of Christ into a desperate world and invite people into the kingdom of light! And we await the hope of the city of light.

And there will no longer be any curse, and the throne of God and the Lamb will be in the city. His servants will worship him, and they will see his face, and his name will be on their foreheads. Night will be no more, and they will not need the light of a lamp or the light of the sun, because the Lord God will shine on them, and they will reign forever and ever. Revelation 22:3-5
