Interesting video

I'm not sure how old it is, but PBS Frontline produced a very interesting documentary on students and their online world.  It's clearly a few years old and not from a Christian worldview perspective, but it does have some great insight into the current youth culture and their online lives.

I don't think we should assume this is represetative of every student, but it should at least cause us to pause and examine things a little more closely.  Click here to watch the video.

Discussion Q's for 10/26

Big idea: it's important to have friends in our lives and we should be careful who we allow to be our closest friends.
  • Students: share the reasons we discussed why friends are important in our lives.
  • Parents: how have you seen your friends make a positive impact on your life?
  • Students: why do you think people sometimes have a hard time choosing friends that will help them follow God more?
  • Together: pray that God will make you wise to choose friends that build you up and take you closer to Him in life.

HSM3

If you don't know what HSM3 is, you need to do a little homework. High School Musical 3 is coming out this weekend and you have a great opportunity to connect with your student and engage in their culture. The High School Musical series has been a huge hit and a lot of students will be seeing the movie. Thankfully, it's rated G.

I also wanted to direct you to a study guide developed by Simply Youth Ministry to pull out some of the spiritual value of the movie. Click here to download your free study guide. I hope it will help you take advantage of something the students are excited about for God's glory.

Discussion Q's for 10/12

The big idea from WIRED: Because he regularly sought God and fully obeyed Him, Elisha had a really powerful relationship with God.
  • Students: What was Elisha's "something special"?
  • Students: What two things did Elisha do differently than Naaman and the King of Israel?
  • Parents: Tell of a time that it was difficult for you to obey God?
  • All: Pray that God would use your family to draw other people to Himself.
