Looking back...

I know Jesus said to put your hand to the plow and not look back. [Luke 9.62] and I know that Lot's wife looked back and turned into a pillar of salt. [wish Omaha and Bellevue would use more salt] However, I do think it is important to reflect and remember [read the Psalms and the teaching of Moses in Dueteronomy] and understand why we do what we do.That said, I came across these statistics from my good friend Robert. Reading these three bullet points made me immediately realize, this is why we are "doing" Sarpy. Over the next few weeks I will share more statistics that not only confirm the need for this multi site in Sarpy but for the need of additional multi sites in the Omaha Metro area.

  • there has been a 92% increase in unchurched Americans in the last thirteen years
  • 14.6% decline in church attendance, in Nebraska since 1990,
  • the divorce rate in Nebraska has increased while nationwide it has decreased

Organized Dust

In November I had the privilege to preach at Christ Community Old Mill and Sarpy. Personally, it was more about sharing and teaching rather than "preaching."

We were in a series called, "Consumed." My title was, "Consumed with Generosity."

I used a phrase in the message that we can be generous when we recognize that all of our belongings big or small is just organized dust.

That phrase began to haunt me.

In a short period of time after that message I experienced my garage door breaking down, brakes needing to be replaced, someone throwing a large rock through the back window of my car because my car was parked on the street while I was trying to fix the garage door opener and then the washing machine broke down.

I say all that to not gain sympathy. I share that with you to let you know how I worked through all that "stuff." I was feeling sorry for myself and starting to go nasal and whine alot. Then I rembered what I said in the message. All of our stuff is just organized dust.

II Corinthians 9.8 says, "And God is able to make all grace abound to you, so that in all things at all times, having all that you need, you will abound in every good work."

May you realize we all own lots of organized dust and that when you recognize you have all that you need, you will "abound in every good work."

Holding onto organized dust loosely,
Steve
